Are YOU Conscious, Consistent and Confident?
OK, I realize this is a humor blog about working at home online, but I can hear you laughing at that title – “Are YOU Conscious, Consistent and Confident?”
And the remarks.
“Who, me? Yeah, right! I’m maybe semi-conscious, nowhere near consistent and what the heck is confident???”
Well, those three little words are written on a card in my wallet (so it’s close to my heart, or was it my brain??) and I look at it often. Pour yourself another cup and I’ll tell you all about it.
Those same remarks were mine not long ago. I’d do a little here, try some of that there, tell myself “Hey, I should do that sometime” and getting numb and feeling dumb.
Anything familiar yet?
I guess the best way to explain it is to take one word at a time. (Caution: One _____ at a time may creep up as a sort of underlying theme here).
Be Conscious
Wait, a tiny little addendum here – that card in my wallet actually reads “Live Consciously, Consistently, Confidently”. So these are changes I’m looking to make in all areas of my life this year. And no, this is NOT a New Year’s resolution. We all know those are all long since history by this date.
By “conscious”, I mean aware and active. It involves lots of decisions (eeewww) and follow through (double eeewwww) in everything I do.
You see, I’m a “I’ll get to it” kind of guy. A “I need to do that…I’ll get to it later” guy. Later, it seems, is located sometime tomorrow and neither one ever comes. So in the meantime, I’ve got this pile of “get to it later” stuff growing like complaints to a helpdesk over a forced continuity offer.
Note: Don’t be afraid, they’re extinct…I think.
Are you aware and active in this online business thing you’ve got going? Are you deciding what to do and then doing it? Or frozen harder than Bernie Madoff’s heart?
Everybody everywhere experiencing any good results, especially while I was at NAMS, said that’s 95% of getting somewhere is deciding and doing. Forget perfect, never happens…but you can change things afterward. Do now, fix later.
Decide on something, one thing and do it. Pick another and do it. Think of it as building a staircase for your online business.
Hey, it beats trying to remember half of all the stuff in your life…
Are we good with “conscious”? OK, next!
Be Consistent
Alrighty, so now you’re conscious, a.k.a. aware and active – deciding and doing SOMEthing. Now comes the hard part, at least it always has been for me.
Keep doing something.
Be nice to yourself. Make it just one something to start. I never got less done than when I had a big pile of paper on my desk with every note, idea or cool thing I came across. There was no deciding and doing going on there.
Consistency is the toughest thing to start and the most important thing to continue.
(Hey, that was really good. Write it everywhere you can see and look for it in a big book of quotations sometime.)
So you decide to do something, do it and keep on doing it. That’s it!
(Wow, I’m on a roll here with these little sayings!)
Well, sorry, wrong…that’s almost it. One more to go.
Be Confident.
Before those first two, this one probably wouldn’t even come to mind.
This one is the biggie. The Payoff. The winning touchdown, Big Kahuna, you name it.
Once you feel your confidence increasing as you see results and keep seeing results, you’ll be hooked.
Conscious + Consistent = Confidence
See? You don’t even need to do the math.
Think about it: Isn’t this the way the rest of life works? Decide, do, keep doing, keep getting better.
I could throw in the old “learning to walk” analogy, but it’s been done to death.
Anyway, that’s what I’m doing. My family knows it, my online colleagues know it and now you know it too.
Waddaya say…care to join me?
Look for updates in the “Getting Unstuck” category and we’ll do this 3 Cs thing together!
P.S. Wanted to go to NAMS3, or wished even more you had since hearing about it? You can “go” after the fact for a whole lot less!
